That is the facebook message that got me. I cannot imagine, asking this to my sister, brother, friend, ¨Hey, Jacob, please respond here on FB. Hey Ruth, Hey John, please touch base, if you are still alive!¨
And today we see the pictures of people in Cairo, who have been asking these questions to their friends or loved ones. And now it suddenly is even more like friends, brothers and sisters, other believers.
In so many places around the globe, we came together and sang in worship, prayed, expecting the coming King. The world keeps going round and round and we ask: Is it really true? Did this all really happen? We get so horribly used to all the bad things.
But we can read about it in revelations 7 and into 8.
7: 11 All the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures. They fell down on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, 12 saying:
Praise and glory
and wisdom and thanks and honor
and power and strength
be to our God for ever and ever.
13 Then one of the elders asked me, “These in white robes—who are they, and where did they come from?”
14 I answered, “Sir, you know.”
And he said, “These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. 15 Therefore,
“they are before the throne of God
and serve him day and night in his temple;
and he who sits on the throne
will shelter them with his presence.
16 ‘Never again will they hunger;
never again will they thirst.
The sun will not beat down on them,’
nor any scorching heat.
17 For the Lamb at the center of the throne
will be their shepherd;
‘he will lead them to springs of living water.’
‘And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.’”
8 When he opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.
2 And I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and seven trumpets were given to them.
3 Another angel, who had a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense to offer, with the prayers of all God’s people,on the golden altar in front of the throne. 4 The smoke of the incense, together with the prayers of God’s people, went up before God from the angel’s hand.
Honestly I find it quite challenging to read in these verses that the prayers of all Godś people go up on the golden altar in front of the throne. It is a beautiful image, but I feel often not that good at prayer. It does not matter probably. It is not depending on my personal prayer alone. It is our prayer, the prayer of the worldwide church. And in that it shows the strength of the whole church from all times and all places. Babies got baptized, the Word is opened. People prayed and at the same time even people got persecuted in such a horrible scene as we saw in Cairo yesterday. But God is in control. He knew it already and our prayers -at home or where ever you have been, went up before the throne.
Amen, Come Lord Jesus
